Over the past twenty years, Jamie Burnett has partnered as technical/production/lighting director with Projects for a New Millennium (Projects2K) founded by artist Joy Wulke, who recently passed away from her courageous battle with cancer. As a memoriam event to celebrate Joy, her work and to hold a “final” celebration of Projects2k’s 20th anniversary, a fifth performance event in the Quarry series– Terra Tractus | The Earth Moves is being designed to take place in the Stony Creek Granite Quarry for eight performances June 19-22 (Summer Solstice) and June 26-29.
The performance will feature the geological and human history of the Quarry from the past, present, and future through dynamic multi-media marvels. The events combines all the light, laser, sound, music, environmental, movement and more from the previous quarry shows such as Visualization Through Time (1995), Terra Continuum (1999), Terra Lumina (2001), and Terra Mirabila (2005). These and other local Projects2K multi-media shows— Navigation Through Time (UConn Avery Point), Branford Luminata (Branford, CT Green), and The Planets (Yale’s Woolsey Hall), to name a few — all demonstrate the power of using sculpture, music, lighting design, and technology to creatively illustrate the science and history of our natural world.
